About Letters & a Stoic:

Ancient Wisdom for Modern Challenges

Our philosophy

Letters & a Stoic is a practical home for ancient wisdom. It’s a simple bridge between the Stoic texts and the demands of modern work and family. No grand theories. Just useful ideas you can try today.

Who’s behind it

I’m David — husband, father of three, generalist, and practising Stoic. When life got busier with kids, Stoicism moved from my bookshelf into daily use. It helps me steady attention, make cleaner choices under pressure, and show up for the people who matter. That’s the spirit I share here.

What to expect

  • Plain language, very little jargon

  • Tools and practices over armchair theory

  • Simple structures you can adapt to real life

  • One useful habit at a time

What you’ll find here

Letters

Weekly letters that take a Stoic idea and turn it into something you can use. Short, conversational, grounded in everyday situations.

Ancient wisdom, modern applications

Clear explanations of core Stoic principles with examples from work, family, and creative practice. The focus is on application, not abstraction.

Courses

Learning experiences that organise the essentials and guide you through practice:

  • Stoicism 101: Introduction to practical Stoicism

  • Coming soon: Enchiridion 101 — the Enchiridion explained

  • Coming soon: a Notion‑based planner for those who want it

Why this matters now

Life is noisy and fast. Stoicism offers a functional framework for responding with clarity instead of reacting from habit. It’s a philosophy for living, not for display. Whether you’re new to Stoicism or returning to it, you’re welcome here. Practice the craft of living well.

Forge ahead.

A cartoon scene at a circus with a man in glasses and a gray hoodie smiling in the foreground. In the background, there are circus tents, clowns, monkeys, and children playing with balloons and riding a bicycle. The overall scene is lively and festive.
